For those who have been following my posts about Kassie Mobius and the MacPoupon County Poorhouse where she hanged herself in 1886, I have found the Pauper’s Grave north of the track at the fairgrounds next to the pond, thanks to the many people who responded to my earlier posts. From what I could find online there were over 320 people buried in this graveyard. There are only two stones however. I have taken pictures of the cemetery and the 2 stones. While I can’t be certain unless I find a record stating differently, I expect that Kassie was likely buried in this cemetery. Her parents were likely too poor to afford a stone or be able to have her interred anywhere else. She was about 34 years old when she died there leaving 3 children behind. I would love to see this cemetery beautified a little in memory of all those who suffered and died at the County Poor House. And to those who do currently keep it mowed and cleaned up, a huge thank you and God bless to you! I am currently trying to find out why Kassie was committed to the Poor House around 1880. I am hoping to find some record that would possibly explain her admittance.
